Naples and Marco Island. Overview.
Naples is one of the most enjoyable, beautiful, wealthy and cultural cities Florida has to offer, with attractions for everyone and eleven miles of stunning beaches. There are also many restaurants and bars some of which will not blow your budget. It is also one of the golfing capitals of the world having over 50 courses. It is set over the Caloosahatcher River. Some people think it is The Gulf Coast’s answer to Palm Beach but although it is trendy and wealthy it is friendly too.
Like some other US cities, Downtown Naples is laid out in a grid. Gulf Shore Boulevard runs north-south along the beach. Naples beaches are so beautiful because no one is allowed to build anything near the water so they are spotless with white sand. You can reach them at the Gulf end of each Avenue. Or if you are a keen fisher you will meet likeminded people at The Pier where fisher people gather mainly at weekends. The stunning entrance way to Naples Museum Of Modern Art is an attraction all by itself. It is a glass sculpture and a dramatic glass dome which modern works look wonderful beside. Marco Island is quieter than Naples and a good place to take a break from the crowds. Catch a trolley tour round the island any day from Monday to Saturday or try some of the local seafood.
