Cocoa Beach. Overview.
South of the Kennedy Space Centre Cocoa Beach stretches for about twelve miles along the shore. It is the easiest place from which to enjoy the surfing and the beautiful Space Coast shoreline. It is also a favourite beach for surfers who brave some of the most extreme waves in Florida there. Surfing competitions are held throughout the Summer and Spring. The whole place has a youthful atmosphere which suits all ages. There are great surfing gear and fashion shops if you are a genuine surfer, or a just a fashion slave to surfing clothes! Volley ball seems very popular which takes place on four permanent courts. Hang out on the pier and beachside parks for free music.
The area is divided between Cocoa Beach and Cocoa Village. Cocoa Village is about eight miles in from Cocoa Beach due West on the causeway. It has 19th century buildings, quaint antique shops and boutiques. It was a trading post for settlers in the 1840s. Fancy a bite of catfish, frog legs, or a slice of alligator tail? There are plenty of restaurants for veggies and those with European tastes.
